Chapter 5 He reached out roughly to grab her, but Brylee dodged desperately, refusing to let him touch her. She even clung to Lucian's arm and begged for help. "Lucian, I don't want to go with him." "Brylee, he's your husband." "He treats me so cruelly. He can't possibly be my husband. He's a liar. Please, don't give me to him." Brylee was nearly in tears. The word "liar" pierced Jamarion's heart. To her, wasn't that exactly what he was? His guilt toward Brylee only grew heavier. Lucian sighed helplessly. "Brylee, you were the one who gave me his phone number." "I regret it." Brylee was so anxious that she was about to cry. Lucian decided to go all the way as the good guy. He said to Jamarion tactfully, "Mr. Galvan, now I finally understand why Brylee wanted to forget her old life and memories. You should have been the one she trusted most, yet you had no patience with her. Surely, you must have done something to betray her." Jamarion's body stiffened, the coldness in his eyes gradually vanishing. Lucian continued, "When your wife came to me, she was utterly despairing. If I hadn't helped her, she could have killed herself." He leaned forward. "Do you know why she didn't commit suicide? She told me she heard that those who take their own lives cannot enter reincarnation. She had already experienced the pain of loneliness in life. She didn't want to repeat that loneliness after death. So she placed her final bet on me." Jamarion's bloodshot eyes glared furiously at Lucian. "Enough already? You're nothing but a charlatan pretending to be some mystic. Do you think I'd believe your bullshit hypnosis? Did you drug her with hallucinogens? Or did you harm her, driving her into madness? Brylee has always been an emotionally stable person." Lucian replied calmly, "Believe it or not, I've said all I needed to say. Take your wife home and treat her well. If you can't, then send her to the Rainbow Bridge. That's the one place she longs to go." Jamarion growled a warning. "If you've done anything terrible to her, I'll make sure you rot in prison." Lucian smiled easily. "Mr. Galvan, I assure you, I haven't harmed your wife in the slightest. In fact, I think the success of the hypnosis was largely due to her strong cooperation." Jamarion's pained gaze shifted to Brylee. "Brylee, if you don't want to die, then come home with me." Brylee shook her head. While Jamarion wasn't paying attention, she suddenly rushed outside. Jamarion froze in shock. He wasn't a monster. Why was she avoiding him like this? Eventually, Jamarion found Brylee at the Rainbow Bridge. She was curled up beneath the bridge, just like when he had first found her four years ago. But this time, Brylee was still that same innocent, radiant girl, while Jamarion was no longer the cold and heartless man he once was. Reaching out his hand to her, Jamarion said, "Come home with me." The scene overlapped faintly with their first meeting four years ago. Back then, at this very place, Brylee had been driven out by her mother, her body covered in wounds, curled up helplessly here. To her, Jamarion had been like a savior. Naive Brylee had been drawn to his gentle, compassionate face, and without hesitation, she went with him. "Sir, why me?" Young as she was, Brylee still knew nothing in this world came free. Jamarion looked heavy with thoughts, and after a long pause, he answered in a deep voice, "It could only be you." She had no idea that he had gone to great lengths to find her, schemed in every way to approach her. Naively, she thought he was just a kind man and believed she was no different from the other poor children he had once helped. How easily she had trusted him! "Sir, thank you for giving me a home. I can cook, wash clothes, sweep and mop... I can do many things."
