Chapter 17 His Care [Xavier’s POV] She was still yelling when I left the room. Quickly walking down the hallway towards the exit, I glanced over my shoulder and saw her come out of the room still cussing out the doctor. I couldn’t help but grin at the sight. “Miss Young, hurry up,” I called. She glared at me while pointing her finger at me. “You! You tricked me!” I turned to face her as she started stomping towards me. She didn’t get very far as the nurse caught hold of her and tried to hand her a piece of paper. Miss Young ripped her arm away, snatched the paper and crumpled it up in her hand. “Miss, that's your prescription!” “Fuck off!” she shouted as she threw the paper ball on the floor. I resumed walking toward the exit and suppressed a small chuckle. She was pitching quite the hissy fit over such a small thing. Resuming my brisk pace, I heard her storming after me. The hallway echoed as her heels smacked against the floor. Judging by the sound, she had to practically jog to catch up to me. “Mr. President, why did you… you shouldn't have tricked me! I told you that I was fine,” she panted. I suddenly stopped and she almost ran into my back. Turning around, I looked down and saw her glaring up at me with an accusing expression. If I had to guess, she probably wanted to chop me up into little pieces right now. Wanting to keep my image intact, I shrugged. “What if that mutt you saved had a disease of some sort? Hmm? I don’t want to get infected by anything you might have picked up from it. I’m not going to put myself at risk just because you decided to act foolishly.” Oh, she was seething now. I could just see the daggers flying out of her eyes. I straightened my sleeves and walked away from her to head towards my car. [Iris’s POV] I huffed in exasperation as I opened the car door. Telling me a thrilling story just to keep my mind off of getting a shot—what the hell? Although, it was a sweet thought. I wasn’t expecting him to show such concern for me. An ambulance passed by and the loud whirring of the siren jerked me out of my dazed state. As soon as we reached headquarters, I went directly to Mr. Scott's office. I sensed his annoyance as he looked up at me from a pile of papers. It was justified since I came in without knocking or prior notice. I just didn’t care. Seeing me in such a foul mood, he offered me a polite smile. “Miss Young, please sit down. I heard that you encountered an accident. Are you alright now?” Flopping down into the chair, I heaved a long sigh. “I'm fine, Mr. Scott. Thank you for your concern.” He beamed and said, “The CEO’s were very impressed with the skills that you demonstrated during the hacking incident. It’s possible that the president will consider promoting you soon. Oh! By the way, you never mentioned on your CV that you were a professional hacker. Why is that?” I sat in silence for a moment trying to figure out what to say. Shifting in my chair into a more comfortable position, I smiled tiredly at him. “I didn’t think it was of any importance, Mr. Scott. It’s just a hobby that I use for extra income. Anyway, could you please handover my tasks for the day? I would like to finish as soon as possible.” As I didn’t receive an order to go back to the president’s office, I stayed with Mr. Scott to complete my work. After I had calmed down, I became so focused on my tasks that I didn’t even look at the clock until I sat back in my chair. It was already 8:30 in the evening and I was exhausted. Glancing around the room, I remembered that Mr. Scott had already left for the Eden International Limited earlier. I yawned loudly and gently rubbed my eyes. Standing up, I collected my things and headed for the door. I glanced toward President Gray’s office as I passed by the empty staffroom. The light was off so I assumed that he had already left as well. When I came out of the building, I shivered as I was greeted by a gush of cold wind and a loud roll thunder. “Shit, well if that just isn’t fucking perfect,” I cursed under my breath. My hands occasionally went to rub my exposed arms while I waited patiently for a taxi. After a couple of minutes, I noticed that it had started to rain. I really didn’t want spend the night at the office. My eyes were glued to the road, willing for a taxi to come and take me home. But, there wasn't a single one in sight. I heard the sound of thunder again while lightening streaked the sky. I was just about to turn and go back inside when a familiar Maybach stopped in front of me. Staring hard at the tinted window, I tried to figure out who was in the car. I didn’t have to wait long. The window rolled down and revealed the devil himself. “Get in the car,” President Grey commanded. Too stunned to directly turn down his offer, I just stood there staring incredulously at him. Would it kill him to ask nicely if I needed a ride? Squaring my shoulders, I was about to give him a flat refusal. However, it only took one look into his eyes for my words to die in my throat. I trudged over to the car and slid into the back seat. It wasn’t even until I sat down that I realized my mistake. I was sitting next to him! I glanced over at him and saw his indifferent expression. “Oh, whatever! I’m too tired for this shit,” I thought as I sat back and tried to relax. With the president’s nod, the chauffer pulled away from the curb and drove toward the highway. I fixed my gaze on the passing buildings outside my window as I planned to ignore him for the whole ride. However, I still found my eyes drifting to him every time he moved. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw his furrowed eyebrows. It look as if he was in deep thought while staring at the rain drops that trickled down his window. Surprisingly, he quickly turned his head and noticed my sideways glance. I rubbed my arms to try to bring some warmth back into my body. “Cold?” he asked. Politely, I shook my head. His piercing gaze drifted over me and a few seconds later, he pulled off his blue coat and held it out to me. “Put it on.” I was speechless at his display of consideration. Holding up my hand to reject his offer, he sighed and draped the coat around my body. His scent surrounded me and all I could think about was how damn good this man smelled. My stomach nervously twisted as I heard his deep gentle voice. “You are quite stubborn, Miss Young. I don't like stubborn people.” “Well then fire me, jackass!” I thought to myself as I felt heat pour into my face.
