Chapter 18 An Illegitimate Affair with Mr. President [Xavier’s POV] I had noticed her as soon as she exited the building. I was initially planning to ignore her and just go home. But, there was no way in hell she would get a taxi at this time of night and I couldn’t just leave her here. I was impressed that, despite of everything that had happened, she still put in a hard day’s work. Miss Young definitely thrived under pressure. She had shown her passion and diligence to do her work not only well, but flawlessly. My car was just about to pass by her, and I saw that she was turning to go back inside. Was she planning on staying the night at the office? Sighing in frustration, I rubbed my temples as I felt an oncoming headache. “Stop the car,” I commanded the driver. I was a complete gentleman in offering her a ride! Now, I was even offering my coat and this is how she repaid me? Refusing not once, but almost twice! That damned stubborn attitude. I knew she was freezing. Her reaction made me want prove who actually had the final say in this matter. Without waiting for her to respond, I draped my coat over her shivering frame. If it was another woman, they would have fainted from having Xavier Gray offer his coat to them. But, this girl… she was different. She looked at me with such a shocked expression that a chuckle almost escaped my lips. The summer rain started pelting against the window and the atmosphere in my car quickly became awkward. She didn't even try to have a conversation with me. Her lack of interest was aggravating. Finally coming up with a reasonable excuse to talk to her, I cleared my throat. “Miss Young, where should I drop you?” Jumping slightly at the unexpected question, she said, “Season Apartment Road 13.” I nodded and ordered my driver to take us there first. The silence relapsed and I couldn’t think of anything else to say and just when I thought of a topic to bring up, my driver announced that we had arrived at her place. She glanced outside at the pouring rain and unbuckled her seat belt. I kept a vacant expression on my face as I hid my disappoint that she had flat-out ignored me all the way here. But, suddenly she turned around and offered me a small smile. “Would you like to come in for a cup of coffee, Mr. President? I want to properly thank you for getting me home.” I looked past her at the stormy weather outside and then back to her beautiful hazel eyes. All of the sudden, a cup of hot coffee sounded like a great idea. She looked like she was about to back out of her bold invitation, so I quickly agreed. Her eyes looked like they were about to pop out in surprise. I guess she didn’t except me to accept. I could understand that. This was the first time that I had ignored my status to enter into an employee’s home. I even saw that my driver was looking at me in fascination. Annoyed, I frowned at him and he shifted back his gaze back to the front of the vehicle. Miss Young opened her door and I heard her gentle voice. “Great! Please, follow me up.” I instructed my personal guards to make sure that the paparazzi didn’t come within a two mile radius of the apartment building. The last thing I needed right now, was another rumor spreading about me. After confirming that my orders were carried out, I got out of my car and followed her inside. [Iris’s POV] My smile dropped as he agreed to my offer. This is what I get for trying to be well polite. “Damn it all to hell! Why do my plans never work out?” I thought. Rushing inside of the apartment building, I looked behind me and saw him frown at the heavy rain fall. One of his guards swiftly approached him and held an umbrella over him as he followed me. Entering the building, he brushed the remnants of water off of his suit. Once he finished, he indicated to the guards to wait around the entrance as he put on a mask. Silently, we made our way to the elevator. Horrified, I saw that my neighbor was also waiting in the lobby. She had a head full of white hair and wore an oversized dress, which I thought could easily pass as a nightgown. We didn’t have any sort of relationship. I only knew that she lived next door. The elevator doors opened and we all piled inside. Mr. President stood directly behind me as we headed up to my floor. Nervously, I gulped as the old lady looked suspiciously at my employer. I prayed to God that no one would find out that he was here. What if it ended up in the papers tomorrow? Rumors would start about me having an illicit affair with the president of the fucking nation. “Holy shit! This was such a bad idea,” I silently told myself as I rubbed my forehead. As soon as we arrived on the fifteenth floor, I quickly rushed out not even giving him a backward glance. Thankfully, it looked like the rest of the floor was empty as he followed me to my door. I started typing the pass code and my neighbor sent me a cold glare. I couldn’t blame her. Anyone would be suspicious at seeing a handsome man entering a single woman's apartment late at night. I waved at her and pushed my door open. Stepping to one side so that he could enter first, I said, “Please, come in. I’m sorry about the mess.” His indifferent expression remained unchanged as he entered my apartment. After locking the door, I found him staring at my couch. Did he need an invitation to sit? I followed his gaze and my mouth gaped at what I saw. I was going to kill Daisy and that stupid boyfriend of hers! Just like other day, her bra was slung over the couch. However, his underwear laying crumpled up on the couch? That was new. I was going to murder those two idiots! In anger and embarrassment, my face instantly felt hot. Glancing up at him, I saw his expression grow dark. Grabbing all of the underwear, I quickly explained, “I'm so very sorry, sir. My best friend and her boyfriend usually come here while I’m gone. Please, sit down. I’ll be back in a minute.” Pulling off the mask, he stared down at me. He hummed coolly and sauntered towards the couch. Seeing him make himself at home, I went into the kitchen.
