Chapter 6 Open Robbery in Broad Daylight Something inside Mandy snapped. She had never understood why she wasn't reincarnated like the other dead-why she had been revived instead. But now, it was clear. She had been brought back by pure rage. She turned the sorrow of her last life into the fury of this one. And now, she would turn that fury into revenge. Yvonne had stolen everything from her. Starting now, Mandy was going to take it all back. A crooked smile tugged at Mandy's lips. "Fine. Money? You earned it, you can spend it however you want. None of my business." "But the engagement between the Tate family and the Yale family? That's something I earned from the womb. And that is none of your business." Jade's expression darkened. "Mandy, what do you mean by that? Are you saying you're not going to break off the engagement?" They were still acting like they were the ones doing her a favor-unbelievable. "That's right. I'm not," Mandy said. "What are you gonna do about it?" The Tate family nearly choked on her audacity. Nothing they said got through to her. John stepped in, trying to soften things. "Mandy, we're family. We should all get along and talk things through, right?" Now that they realized Mandy wasn't some soft pushover, but a solid wall, suddenly they wanted to negotiate. Typical. The more they begged, the more she wouldn't give. Give them an inch, and they'd take the world. Mandy scoffed. "So now you're asking me to hand the engagement over to Yvonne. If you're going to beg, act like you mean it. Mr. Tate, don't you agree?" And in that moment, John realized-this Mandy wasn't the naïve little lamb she used to be. She was a wolf now, sharp-eyed and hungry. She was even raising the stakes. But no matter what she asked for, it wouldn't outweigh the value of marrying into the Yale family. So John swallowed his pride. "Alright. Just tell me what you want. As long as you agree to withdraw from the engagement." Mandy nodded. "I only have one condition." John leaned in. "Whatever it is, as long as it's within the Tate family's means, we'll do it." Yvonne and Jade visibly relaxed. They thought victory was close. But then Mandy made sure they'd never smile again. "From this day on, I want everything Yvonne owns in this house. Whatever she has, I want." The Tate family exploded with fury. Sally jumped in to fan the flames, again. "Madam, Mandy's gone too far! She's clearly trying to steal everything Ms. Yvonne has!" Mandy stood and spoke coldly, her tone final. "Don't like it? Then forget it. You don't have the right to negotiate with me. You're pushing your luck." She turned and started to walk away, like she was the one doing them a favor by even showing up. Yvonne knew-Mandy had come back to rob her blind. She wanted her gone more than anything. But for the sake of the engagement-becoming the future Mrs. Yale-she swallowed her pride. "Mandy, wait." Jade hissed through gritted teeth, "Yvonne, don't bother. She's just here to take what's yours. Ignore her." But Yvonne wiped her tears and forced herself to speak. "She's right. What I have... I took from her. Everything I have now was originally Mandy's. Giving it back is only fair." "Yvonne..." "Mom, don't. I've made up my mind. I'm adopted anyway. Now that my sister's home, if I marry out, everyone wins." She turned to Mandy, voice steady. "Mandy, I agree to your condition." Mandy turned around slowly. Under John and Jade's hateful glares, she cleared her throat and ordered calmly. "Sally, clear out Yvonne's room. I don't like used stuff. I want to see a brand new room ready before tonight." Jade sprang to her feet, furious. "Mandy, you've gone too far!" Mandy dropped onto the sofa and raised her brows at Jade, grinning like a devil. "That's right. I have gone too far. You don't like it? Fine. I'll walk." ... John saw another disaster coming and quickly ordered, "Sally, do as she says." Sally grumbled, "Sir, Ms. Yvonne's things won't fit anywhere else. And all the other spare rooms are smaller. Plus... even if we go out now, there's no way to get new furniture and set it up by tonight." Sally again, with her excuses. If someone didn't put her in her place soon, she'd think she ran the house. Mandy shot her a fierce glare. "A housekeeper showing me attitude? Are you really qualified? I'm starting to think your whole résumé is fake." Her voice was sharp, eyes deadly. Sally shivered. There was something chilling in Mandy today-something almost... inhuman. "I'll get on it right away. I'll do it now!" Sally said, head lowered. ... Mandy had only tossed a few sarcastic remarks, and Sally folded like a wet towel. Suspicious. Maybe it was time someone looked into Sally's background. She was living way too comfortably for a servant. Mandy sat in the living room, supervising everything. She watched Sally and two other servants haul things around like they were gutting the house. The place looked like a crime scene. Jade finally couldn't take it anymore and exploded. "Mandy, so what if you take everything Yvonne owns? In my heart, she's the only daughter I'll ever have. That won't change-past, present, or future. I'll never acknowledge someone like you as my child. Never!" Like Mandy gave a damn. Having a mother like Jade was a damn curse. She'd endured it in silence last time. This time, she was fighting back. "I don't want a mom like you either. And don't you dare go around telling people you are." "You-!" "And another thing," Mandy added coolly, "I expect you to stock my wardrobe with the same brands Yvonne used to wear. If I find out you're trying to cheat me-forget breaking the engagement, I won't even consider it." ... Jade had been enraged so many times in one day, her blood pressure shot through the roof. Her head pounded as she collapsed onto the couch, face twisted in pain. "Mandy... my head hurts. Go get me a glass of water," she barked, still stuck in her old habits. As if nothing had changed. As if Mandy was still the same doormat who would do anything to win their love.
