Chapter 42 Alarick's POV It is 6:00 and dinner time. I walk in to see everybody there except my Gamma Garrett and LeeAca. "Where is she?" Onin asks, peeking through my eyes. I sit down and wait a few minutes. She doesn't come, but the food does. As we start the meal I look over to Maleena. "Where is LeeAca?" I ask, trying to hide the disappointment in my voice. "Oh, well I went to get her from the room and she was sleeping. Well, is sleeping." She says. "She needs to eat. Did you not wake her?" I ask and she chuckles. "If you knew my sister, you would know not to wake her for any reason. Even food. She will bite your head off." She says, taking a bite of her food. I just nod and start to eat dinner. After about 20 minutes Markus turns to Maleena. "How was your first day of school Little Sun?" He asks. Maleena's head snaps up so quick I swear her neck would have broken if she wasn't a werewolf. Her eyes changed black then went back to her normal blue. She clears her throat and takes a deep breath. "Please refrain from calling me that, Beta Markus. There is only one person who calls me that." She says. I look at Markus and he is blushing. I can tell he feels awkward now. "But to answer your question. School was good. Although there were complaints about my schedule from other students, I still managed to meet a few people." She says smiling. "That's good to hear. How was your first training?" He asks and her face falls. "To be honest, I thought that it would have been a little harder than it was. I guess since I was training with my father, I am more advanced." She says, shrugging her shoulders and continuing to eat. Markus looks perplexed. He and Garret set up the training and I approved it. We all thought it was pretty tough for high school seniors. "Are you wanting to be a warrior?" I ask her. She looks up at me with curiosity. "Of course. I would love to be. I want to be able to help people and serve my community." She says, her voice is filled with passion. "Well then how about I talk with the instructor at the school and if he agrees that you are more advanced I will allow you to train with the warriors. Also, all warriors must go through a program to help them control their gifts. You can start that too." I say and smile at her. The whole table looks at me in shock. I'm not exactly sure why. But as soon as Maleena's shock fades she is bouncing in her seat with excitement. "Oh goddess! I would love that!" She exclaims while bringing her hands up to her face in disbelief. The rest of the dinner we all chatted about menial things. My mind kept going to LeeAca and the day we had today. LeeAca's POV There he is in all his glory. My second chance mate. He is gorgeous. Tall with chocolate skin and his hair shaved close to his scalp. His eyes are a wondrous green, reminding me of the forest. His smile is perfect. Fen and I love him already. "My name is Jacob. My little mate." He says as he hugs me and it feels wonderful. The sparks erupt all over and I feel like I am melting into him. Fen is purring in my head. Before I had time to register it, he was leading me into the forest. I was in such bliss, consumed by the mate bond. He was actually accepting us! He led us out to a small clearing, it was just big enough to fit maybe 5 people, but it was just us. The grass danced around my ankles and there is a small patch of wildflowers to the right. This is perfect. "I didn't realize how much I would love you already." He says taking my hand and bringing it to his lips. I melt again at his touch. "That is why I am sorry." He says. Confusion crosses me as I see him pulling out a needle and stabbing my arm. I see the pain in his expression, but no regret. I see men coming out of the forest. My beautiful mate throws me towards them as whatever he just injected me with starts to take hold.. "You have her now are you going to keep your word and free me?" My mate asks one of the men. Fen takes control as she registers what is going on faster than I do. Everything is slowing down, I don't know what he put into our system, but Fen is fighting it. "YOU TRADED ME FOR YOUR FREEDOM?!" She roars at our mate. He smirks showing no remorse whatsoever. Before he could say anything Fen jumps from the man that was barely holding us and rips out our mates heart. The pain from us killing our mate is 10 times worse than the pain that was starting to take effect from the injection. We both succumb to the darkness. I wake up panting. I feel the betrayal and loss of my mate. It might have been almost 5 years ago, but it feels like it was just yesterday. I get up from the bed, my body aching all over. All my muscles are sore. I look over at the clock and see that it is 8:00. I slept 3 hours, I guess that will be my sleep for the night. I finally make it to the bathroom and splash some water on my face. I hate when I still feel the emotional hurt. Fen and I would take physical pain over emotional pain 100% of the time. I walked out into the living room area and see that Maleena is sitting in a chair with books sprawled out around her. She looks up at me and smiles. "How was your nap?" She asks. "It was fine. You already have that much homework?" I ask her looking around at the mess she made with books and papers. "My teachers all gave me packets to do by the end of the week to see if I can keep up with the classes since I am coming in mid-year." She says. I nod and grab my sketchbook and sit down on the couch. I start to sketch while Maleena does her homework. After 3 hours of sitting there I look over to see Maleena deep in a book taking notes. I look over to see that it is 11:15. "You need to go to bed. That will be here for you in the morning." I say while pointing down to the books. "I want to get this paper done." She says defiantly. "The paper will be here for you in the morning. You need sleep." I say back while raising an eyebrow as if to dare her to argue. "You work with 2 to 4 hours of sleep everyday." She counters and I laugh. "I am not the person you should be looking up to Maleena. You know I don't sleep well." I say. "Why shouldn't I look up to you?" She asks me, dropping the conversation about sleep. "I am not a role model, Maleena. If you want somebody to look up to, look at somebody else. Maybe Amara or her late mother. They're good choices." I say as I get up to get me some water. Maleena follows but stops and looks at my sketchbook. "Who's he?" She asks looking at the picture more intently. I set my cup down and walk over to her and look. I didn't even realize that I was so in my head when sketching that I drew my first second chance mate, Jacob. Emotions come rolling in and I try my best to hide them. "Nobody." I say while grabbing the book so she doesn't look at the other pages. "Your face didn't say he was nobody." She says. Damn I thought I did a good job at hiding it. "He is nobody. Maleena, drop it and go get ready for bed." I say dismissing her. She huffs and walks into the bedroom. Once she closes the door, I look at the drawing. The hurt and betrayal of that day come to the surface. The hope of what could have been. The last time Fen and I trusted anybody without reason. The reason we went through what we did. Tears start to well up in my eyes and Fen growls. I blot my eyes. I will not cry because of this son of a b*tch. I haven't cried once in four years. It isn't going to start now. I close the book and lock it. "I'm going out." I mindlink Maleena. "What's new?" She says back. I sigh, teenagers In Addicted to You movie, Audrey's biggest regret? A one-night stand with Floyd, her secret love for eight years. Despite his arranged marriage and his family's troubles, he kept rescuing her. She tho...
