Chapter 6 The limousine rolled into the Marra estate, and I found myself holding my breath. The wrought-iron gates opened slowly, revealing rows of black-uniformed bodyguards standing at attention on either side. Lorenzo took my hand as we stepped out of the car, murmuring into my ear, "Don't be nervous. From now on, this is your home." His voice was deep and gentle. After gently brushing my hand to reassure me, he took me inside to freshen up. When I appeared in front of everyone, dressed in a lavishly designed wedding gown, Lorenzo's eyes darkened for a split second. Standing in the center of the hall, he stared intensely at me, saying, "You're so beautiful, my bride." The guests raised their glasses in honor of us. Only then did I notice who they were. These were faces I'd only ever seen on international news. There was an oil magnate from a certain country, the head of an old Earovean aristocratic family, and even a major arms dealer whose name was only known to certain spheres of society. They were all nodding and smiling at us, their gazes full of respect for Lorenzo, the new don of the Marra family. Lorenzo was far more powerful than I'd imagined. After the wedding, he carried me back to the main bedroom. Once the bedroom door was closed, however, the cocky attitude he had in front of others fell away, replaced by a slight awkward stiffness. "Shall we have a drink?" he asked in his deep voice before passing me a glass of red wine. My fingertips brushed against his hand as I took the glass, and my heart skipped a beat. Lorenzo seemed to have sensed my nervousness, for he chuckled and said, "You don't need to be nervous." "I'm not nervous," I replied stubbornly. "Oh?" Lorenzo remarked with an arched brow. After glancing at my trembling fingers, he thoughtfully took a step back to give me a bit more space before continuing, "I just wanted to tell you that I've admired you for some time now." Startled, I asked, "Since when?" "Since I read your paper on explosives design," he said, swirling the wine as he spoke. "You published a paper on the control of blast radius in Arms Quarterly three years ago. I've read it at least 20 times." My eyes widened in shock. That was the only article that was published under my name-through a pseudonym, of course. "How did you know it was me?" "From your style," he replied with a smile. "It's as distinctive as your signature." 1/2 Chapter 6 +25 Bonus Lorenzo stepped forward again, but he held himself back and stopped at an appropriate distance from me. "I wasn't holding the reins back then, so I was worried you'd suffer if I married you. But now..." With a flourish of his hands, he declared, "The entire Marra family is now yours to lean on." My pulse skyrocketed, and my cheeks flamed. Seemingly satisfied with my reaction, he chuckled. "If you can't accept me just yet, you can tour the glass conservatory instead." "The glass conservatory?" I repeated as I looked up in shock. "That's right," he affirmed with a nod. "I know you're fond of cultivating various varieties of roses, so I had them prepare a glass conservatory for you." My eyes prickled. I didn't think he'd do so much for me. In my previous life, Leon had only ever forced me to work day and night to come up with new weapons for him. Never once did he care about my likes and hobbies. Lorenzo gestured to a door at the end of the hallway, saying, "If you don't want us to sleep together tonight, I can sleep in that room-" My impulse took over, and before he could even finish speaking, I jumped on him, pushing him onto the bed. Lorenzo didn't see that coming. His eyes widened in shock, but he quickly tightened his arms around me, keeping me securely locked in his embrace. "You started this, Mrs. Marra," he said, his voice husky. I bent down and kissed his lips, and he responded by deepening the kiss passionately. Much later in the night, my eyes were still dazed as I lay limp in his arms. "Who on earth said you couldn't get it up after fooling around with too many women..." Lorenzo bit my earlobe before mumbling, "After I fell for you, I stopped having any more contact with other women. But if you still have the energy to think about such things..." He suddenly rolled over, flipping on top of me. His eyes were dark with desire. "I guess you're not tired enough yet, so let's have another go." "Wait- Mm!"
