Little pieces of half-chewed toast fly around the kitchen, and I make a disgusted face. "Can you, like, not spit your food everywhere, please? You're disgusting." Haru only laughs harder and takes another bite of her toast. "You're such a pig," I tell her, shaking my head. "Thanks," Haru says, giving me a toothy smile. I roll my eyes. "But seriously, this is new for you. Most of the time you tie them up, do your thing, and walk out without a single word." I look away, not knowing how to answer her truthfully. I don't even know why I let him in my bed myself. "I really don't know." Haru stops laughing, and her eyes soften. "Don't be hard on yourself." I laugh in her face. "Uh, yeah, I should be. I'm not stupid enough to let someone sleep in my bed normally. So why the hell did it happen last night? I should know better." I twirl one of my dreads around my finger, loving the feel of them. I've had my dreads for about two years now, and I don't see myself getting rid of them anytime soon. I look back at Haru and find her watching me, probably trying to come up with the right thing to say. Just when she opens her mouth, a loud knock echoes through the apartment. I sigh and get up from the counter I've been sitting on. "It's my brother," I tell Haru after peeking through the peephole. Haru makes a gagging sound, and I stifle a laugh before opening the door. Devil, along with Iren, Chaos, and-surprise, surprise-Killer come into view. I give Killer a hard glare, but he just smirks at me. I don't remember him smiling and grinning this much. "Can we come in?" Devil asks when I just keep staring at them. I glance over my shoulder and give Haru a questioning look. "Just let them in," Haru grins. She really woke up in a good mood today. I open the door wider to let them in and watch the four huge bikers walk into my apartment. I point to the couch and sit down on the floor in front of them, keeping a good distance. "You can come back. I overreacted," my brother says quickly. "Stop calling me that." I give him my usual glare before picking up my backpack and walking toward the living room. Haru is chatting with Iren, completely ignoring Devil and Chaos. Iren watches her with soft eyes. You can already tell he adores her. I want to pity him, but a part of me hopes that maybe-just maybe-he could give Haru a chance to be happy. Or at least get laid. "Ready?" my brother asks. I nod. "I'll ride with Iren," Haru whispers in my ear. I give her a side glance. "You're dumping me?" I make a mocking face. Haru giggles softly. "Maybe." We step out of the apartment and head toward our bikes. Out of the corner of my eye, I spot a few men hiding behind a van. All that leather screams "bikers." Without drawing attention, I walk over to Killer. "Question: are we on lockdown because you've got beef with another club? Because there are some bikers playing hide-and-seek behind that van to our left." Killer tenses slightly and looks down at me, then glances toward the van. "f**k. Devil-we've got scouts." Killer grabs my hand and pulls me toward the bikes. Before he can push me onto his, I pull away and walk to mine. "I can handle my baby, don't worry. Two people on a bike are harder to manage than one." Killer wants to argue-I can see it in his face-but he straddles his bike anyway. Loud engines roar in the distance, approaching fast. "f**k, they already called reinforcements," Chaos growls, starting his bike. One by one, we speed up-racing down the sandy road toward the compound. Hopefully, all in one piece. 4/5 < Life of Death +15 Points 2
