Chapter 8 Lorna's POV I'm hiding in the grate, waiting for two big men to go back inside, why goddess, would anyone choose to meet in this horrifically smelling garden I do not know. There must be a thousand places in this pack alone to have a quiet chat about the hunt. I don't recognise them, they aren't part of this pack. One is big, with silver like hair, built well and has a presence about him. I can't smell him but he's not an alpha. Perhaps a Beta. He has a strong aura but his body language is subservient to his friend. That must be his Alpha. His aura is terrifying in its strength. I have never seen a man so big before, his clothes fit him so well, if obvious he is heavily muscular and toned all over, his legs the size of tree trunks. His shoulders are so muscular it would be difficult to hold him. Where did that thought come from?? I can only see him from the side but his skin holds a lovely tan that could only be achieved from spending a lot of time outside, and his hair is a lush deep onyx, ornately wrapped in a plated topnot, the underneath shaved close. I wonder how soft it is? If I could just......Goddess, what has gotten into me. I have never reacted like this to a man before. Why now? Don't get me wrong the man looks like a god. It is a shame I can't smell him. Even Athena is begging me to get closer in the hope of smelling him. Then I remember they are taking part in the hunt and suddenly I want to be as far away from them as possible. Goddess, please don't let them find me. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Fɪndηovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality. I hear bits of what they are saying. I think they are trying to find someone, a shewolf perhaps. Must be their target for the nights hunt. Goddess, could they both be looking for the same shewolf! Finally they move off, going back inside, and I finally get my chance to move. I'm hoping that everyone will be inside having the dinner in the great hall and therefore I run a lower risk of being spotted or worse, scented. Clambering out, we scan the environment, Athena's heightened senses allow me to assess the area more accurately. Luckily we are alone at present. Creeping forward, I return the cover and begin in the direction of my quarry. Feeling more at peace than I have ever known, I walk towards the gorge. At this pace and as long as I don't get interrupted I should get there around midnight. Far away from the hunt route, I should be........ before the course comes that way. It's been so long since I openly walk the pack lands, it has been too dangerous to be caught somewhere so vulnerable and alone. I find that I have missed the feeling of the grass through my toes, remembering the sensation of it. The memories of running through the pack lands with my parents, when I was a child, flood my mind. Happy memories that bring a smile to my face and bring me comfort for the journey before me. Dancing around, putting on shows dressed as the moon goddess, twirling around. Such happier times. As expected, the pack are all at the pack house dining before the hunt. Building their energy levels so that they have the stamina of the chase filled by the night long mating in the forest. To be fair, the couples aren't likely to surface until tomorrow nights ball so I imagine that takes a large amount of calories. A shiver wracks my body. Running my hand along the bark of the trees as I walk, knowing through the night someone will follow my scent, if only to realise what their actions drove me to. I don't expect them to feel guilt but I think Mrs Clarke would like to know for sure. I left her a letter in her best pinafore. She will put it on tomorrow because she is catering the ball as well. Mrs Clarke, I know that you don't want to be reading this letter right now, and you're probably feeling disappointed in me. I'm sorry that I couldn't stay by your side any longer. Please know that you did nothing wrong, you have been my only friend and ally in this pack since my parents were killed. I don't blame you for taking me to the clinic last year, i would not wish you to have carried the guilt of wondering what if, had you not. However, a large part of me died that night and is calling out to the piece left behind. It is time that I join my parents again and see what the moon goddess has planned for me next. I am at peace with this decision and wish you love and happiness in your life. Your kindness could never be forgotten. I hope I can repay you in a future life. Your friend, Lorna x I do hope Mrs Clarke doesn't feel to blame for this, that why writing the letter was so important to me. I can see the edge, with the gorge below, in front of me. The sun setting in a pink sky across the landscape. How fitting, my dreams have been filled with beautiful grass, pink skies and... ... the onyx wolf. I never did find him. Perhaps it was the mason goddess warning me about tonight, luckily he wont ever catch me.
