Chapter 4 The Kidney Queen Returns from Hell If this had been the underworld, Mandy wouldn't have wasted her breath-she would've just carved the ghost's kidney out and tried matching it to her own. "Isn't it obvious? You're dead. Accept it already." The male ghost dropped to his knees, clutching his head and wailing. "I don't want to die... I don't want to die...!" Then why the hell were you driving like that? Too late now. Ghosts wailing like banshees-what an awful sound. Mandy winced at the racket. Annoyed, she gave the ghost a brutal kick. She just loved bullying ghosts. "Cut it out!" The male ghost flew backward a dozen feet and crashed hard. He instinctively realized the girl in front of him was dangerous and tried to run. But Mandy was already behind him, dragging him back like a chicken. "Ahh! Let go of me! What are you doing?! Let me go!" ... She ignored his pathetic screams. By now, she was sure: she was alive again. But some of her ghostly powers still lingered. To figure out what exactly was going on with her body, she'd need to consult someone who knew the underworld inside out. She dragged the ghost back to her room and shut the door. "Stay put or I'll bash your skull in." The ghost, having witnessed her strength firsthand, curled into a corner, shivering. "I-I get it! Don't kill me!" Hmph. He was just a minor ghost-what good would killing him do? Three days passed. Mandy stayed home sleeping late, not stepping foot outside. On the third night, a cold wind blew through her room. A man in a white suit, with neat white hair, appeared out of nowhere. He even brought his own desk, laptop, and work materials. Ever since the underworld modernized into "Hell Corp," they ran a full-on corporate model. The man before her, Mr. Ibis, was just a low-level desk jockey. Mandy greeted him like an old friend. "Mr. Ibis, long time no see." Mr. Ibis instinctively flinched. "Ma'am..." But the moment he noticed something odd about her state, curiosity lit his eyes. "I heard you finally got a matched kidney. Why haven't you reincarnated? Why are you... like this?" Mandy was speechless. "You work for Hell Corp and don't know?" "I'm just a guide. The one in charge of Hell Corp is Mr. Reaper-you know that." Reaper? That useless excuse for a man... ghost. "What's going on with me?" Mr. Ibis thought for a second. "Oh... probably a bug in the reincarnation system." ... Ever since that lazy Reaper took over, she'd conned him into hiring developers to build a digital reincarnation system. Now the underworld called itself Hell Corp, complete with all-inclusive entertainment and luxury services. She knew there'd be bugs. Seeing Mandy's mood sour, Mr. Ibis rushed to explain. "Queen, your case was already a special one. And you were so eager to reincarnate... But hey, you're alive now. Try to make the most of it, alright?" "What?" Mandy exploded. "I spent every last cent I had on your reincarnation package, and now you're telling me to just 'make the most of it'? You want me to storm your headquarters and blow the place up?" "No no no! We have a special compensation plan! With this guide, you'll thrive in this life, I swear!" A swirl of dark light wrapped around Mandy and sank into her body. Intelligence: +50 Combat Ability: +1000% ... That's it? Mr. Ibis grabbed the still-terrified ghost in the corner and scrambled for the exit. "Queen, you can do whatever you want in the human world now! I've got work to do-bye!" "Hey-get back here!!" ... So it was a system glitch that brought her back to life. Well, she could live with that. Whether for revenge or gratitude, at least she didn't have to wait for the next life. ... The next morning, John and Jade personally came to the slums to bring Mandy back. Jade stood outside the house, too proud to step in. Her voice was sharp and dismissive as she addressed Mandy's adoptive parents. "Mandy is, after all, the daughter of the Tate family. If you really care about her, you should persuade her to come back with us instead of letting her rot here in the slums. She'll never amount to anything if she stays." Lina and Brandon had been poor their whole lives. They didn't mind for themselves, but Mandy was still young. Naturally, as parents, they wanted a better life for her. After much thought, the couple decided to let Mandy return with the Tates. Mandy stepped out, fully dressed, and shot the visitors a cold look. "You're not welcome here. Leave." Her tone, her expression-like they were strangers. No, worse than strangers. Sally, of course, jumped in to fan the flames. "Madam, look how rude she is. If we take her back, we'll have to teach her some discipline." Hearing this, Mandy suddenly wondered why Sally always had it out for her. Just as she was about to lose her temper, Lina spoke up. "Mandy, they're your parents. You shouldn't speak to them like that. Mind your manners, alright?" Mandy had never defied her adoptive parents. They had earned her obedience. "Okay, Mom. I understand," she replied sweetly. Lina continued, "You've been here for a few days now. Since your parents came to get you, go ahead and pack up. You should go back with them." Going back... was only to settle the score with the Tates. But she just couldn't stand their arrogant faces. "You want me to go back? Beg me," Mandy said. "You-!" Jade was about to explode, but John quickly stopped her and shot Mandy a deadly glare. "How can you speak to your parents like this? You've gone too far." Even Lina felt Mandy was being excessive and gently scolded her. "Mandy, they're your elders. They came all this way to pick you up. Don't be rude-people will say we didn't raise you right. You need to be more mindful." Then she turned to the Tates with a smile. "Mandy's just spoiled by us. She's only joking-don't take it to heart." "I'll go pack your things so you can go home. Don't disappoint them." Mandy rolled her eyes at John and the others. They didn't come for love. They came to force her to break off the engagement and hand it over to that bitch Yvonne.
