Chapter 40 We walk into Ray's Diner, at the end of the main strip, and everyone goes silent. There are 10 people in here leaving about half of the diner open. It isn't busy, but I only see Lyn behind the counter so it is busy for her. "Luna! Thank you so much for picking the children up." Lyn says dusting her hands off on her apron. She sees Alarick behind me and she bows. "Alpha." She says almost questioningly. I walk up to the counter and see that this place looks like a bakery too. "No need to thank me." I say as I look into the dessert case there are about 10 different desserts. I scan it seeing there are doughnuts, cream filled croissants, cheesecakes, and cakes. My eyes stop scanning when I notice a pineapple cake in the glass and Fen starts drooling. "Can we get one of every dessert? They all look so good." She says almost eyef*cking the desserts. I smile. "Did you make these?" I ask Lyn pointing to the desserts. "Yes Luna. Baking is my passion while cooking is my mate's." She says with a small smile. I didn't notice that Alarick came beside me and was looking at them too. I can feel Lyn's nerves kick in while he looks at the desserts. He hasn't said anything, just standing there intimidating everyone. "Could I get one of each to go?" I ask her. She shoots her head up shocked. "One of each of the desserts?" She asks. I smile at her and nod my head. "They all look so good and I can't decide what one to get, so I would like one of each." I say, confirming with her. Fen yips in my head. She is excited. Lyn quickly packages the desserts and when I go to pull out my wallet I realize that Alarick already has cash out and is handing it to Lyn. I scrunch up my face. These aren't for him, so why is he paying? "He better not think he is getting any of these! They're mine!" Fen snaps. "Keep the change." He says to her then takes the bags with the desserts. Lyn looks up at him in shock. He handed her a hundred dollar bill, the cost was only 30 dollars. "Lyn. I was wondering, since I don't get out of the castle much, do you know of a place that is near the school for the daycare. I am planning on looking at them on the way back." I say which turns her attention back to me. "Of course. There are actually two within walking distance from the school. Both are right when you walk into the main strip." She says. "Thank you. I will look into those. See you tomorrow." I smile and grab the last bag with the desserts in it, then walk out. After about 5 minutes of walking I finally broke the silence. Fen is bugging me to make sure he doesn't plan on taking any of those desserts. "I hope you don't think since you paid for these that you are getting any." I say. It came out a bit b*tchier than I was hoping. He looked at me and faked being hurt. "You mean YOU are going to eat ALL of these? I thought you got them to be nice." He says. "Hell no I didn't get them just to be nice. If I didn't want them I wouldn't have gotten them. You could have ordered some too." I say looking at him and he chuckles. "He needs to stop laughing and food is serious. Especially THIS food!" Fen yells at me. She makes me laugh too. She is very serious when it comes to sweets. "You're seriously not going to share any of them? After all, I am carrying the majority of them." He says holding up the two bags as if I didn't see them before. "Give them here then." I say reaching for the bag closest to me he pulls away before making me miss. "I am carrying them. You don't have to worry about sharing anything other than the pineapple cake." He says. I'm willing to negotiate, but that pineapple cake is mine. It's the only thing I wanted, Fen wanted everything else. "Hell no. That one is mine." I say sternly. "Apparently you think they are all yours." He says, raising his eyebrow. "You can have anything else as long as it isn't the pineapple cake." I say, giving in and making Fen pissed. "THOSE ARE MINE!" She says snarling. "Fen you have 10 desserts, you can share 1." I say as she stalks off. He smiles triumphantly and we walk a few more minutes when he breaks the silence. "What happened with Breana that made her late?" He asks. "I found her in the bathroom. She didn't want Christopher to see her sad." I tried not to say too much about the situation. "Why was she sad?" He asks. "She was missing her parents." I said to him, I felt his mood change from curious to sad as well. "How did you cheer her up?" He asked me. "I didn't. I was just there for her. Comforting her when she needed it." I say honestly. He nods his head as we continue walking. "Thank you for letting me tag along. It really helped me." He says genuinely. "Let him? He didn't give us an option." Fen says. "It isn't like you gave me a choice." I said to him, raising my eyebrows. He looks at me then chuckles awkwardly. "Yeah. I apologize for that. I just really needed to get out of my head and this really helped." He said, scratching the back of his neck nervously. "It's okay. I guess.. Just uh next time ask. Hopefully it will make it less awkward." I say chuckling. "Awkward? I didn't think it was awkward at all." He says. I could tell he was joking and I just chuckled even more. "Awkward is an understatement." I say and he just laughs. We continue walking, but stop when we see a building for rent near the end of the strip. It looks small and it is two stories, I am not sure how that would work as a daycare. Almost reading my thoughts "I don't think this one would work too well for a daycare. Let's see if we can find the other one." He says as he continues walking. I nod and follow him. We walk a little longer and spot another for rent sign outside of a building. This one is only two buildings down from the start of the strip. It is small, but it is one story. I walk around the strip towards the back to see what type of ground there is in the back. It is only a road that looks like it is for trucks to drop off supplies. It goes all the way down to the end of the strip. Alarick walks up behind me and again says what I am thinking. "There isn't a place for the kids to play." He says, sounding kind of disappointed. "Let's just keep walking. Maybe there is another place." I say as I elbow his arm. He looks down at me and smiles. We keep walking and once we reach the middle school area he stops and looks at it. I can see the wheels turning in his head. "Why don't we build one right next to the school?" He asks. I look over towards the school. That was what I originally wanted to do, but didn't want to push my luck with him. "I told Lyn I would have it done by the end of the week." I say and he stays silent. "Okay hear me out. Why don't we rent out one of the buildings we saw temporarily, until we can build the daycare and get it set up?" He asks and I smile. That is actually a good idea. "We could rent the two story one and make it so the top is older kids who need to study and the bottom is for younger kids who can play." I say adding on to his thoughts. He lights up and grabs my arms, sending tingles down them. I hope he didn't feel that. If he did he made no motion of showing it. "That is brilliant LeeAca." He says, smiling down at me. I only smile slightly back. "Thank you." I say slightly blushing and looking away. He lets go of my arms and clears his throat. "We better get back soon or these desserts will go bad." He says as he walks away towards the castle. We reach the castle and get rushed by Markus. "Where have you been? I have been looking everywhere for you!" He yells at Alarick. Then looks at me then at him, then at the bags we hold. His eyes light up. "You know what you are forgiven. What did you bring me?" He asks, his eyes never leaving the bag. I know he can smell the sweets. "That Chihuahua better not think about touching any of these! They're mine!" Fen yells. I sit my bag down on the nearest table and take out the top two boxes. I open them to make sure they are not the pineapple cake and hand Markus one. I take one of the bags from Alarick and put the other box in his then reach for the other bag. When our hands touch I get the tingles again and I force a slight smile on my face. I grab the bag that I sat down on the table and walk up towards my bedroom leaving them there.
