"Peace be upon you Doctor Imran", said Mr. Ade when he got to the doctor's office. "Unto you too Ade", the doctor replied. Imran and Ade have been friends since their university days. "About Salamat, her case is not serious. It was the shock that made her unconscious but she's stable now. She might be awake in the next 2 hours or so", the doctor explained to his friend. "Ok, but can you tell what happened because we are puzzled", Mr. Ade said. When Mr. Ade got to the hospital, he was devastated to see his daughter lying unconscious on the hospital bed. He blamed himself for staying too long at the office. His wife was as puzzled as he was. Curiosity got the better of him and he decided to ask his friend, even though he was scared to hear what it might be. 'I hope she wasn't abused again', he thought to himself. "She was physically abused but we have to wait for her to be conscious so we could hear from the horse's mouth. Let's just hope she remembers", the doctor said. "Can I ask a question?", Mr. Ade finally blurted out. "Is there a possibility that she was sexually abused again", he asked embarrassed. "Of course not, she was only physically abused and as I said earlier, let's wait till she's awake." Mr. Ade was silent and lost in thought. He then decided to ask the doctor another question. "Is it possible to travel with her condition in the next two days?" "Your daughter is a very strong girl, she will be discharged tomorrow by the grace of God." "Thank you...... I can't help but wonder who did this to her and for what reason. Her mother keeps blaming herself for leaving her all alone in the house." "Let's just thank God that she is fine. Don't you worry yourself, Salamat will be fine", the doctor assured him with a smile. Three hours later, Salamat became conscious and was questioned by the police who quickly swung into action. Her parents were relieved when she narrated the whole incident and also told them it was just physical harassment. She then slept off again after eating. "Ade, we need to sue that boy's family, they have done enough harm than good. That boy had the gut to enter my house and harass my daughter. He won't go scot-free", Mrs. Ade threatened. "Don't be sentimental dear. The most important thing is that our daughter is safe. Doctor Imran said princess will be discharged tomorrow so we will be traveling the day after. We need to do all the packing within today and tomorrow." "Yes that's a good idea, if we stay here any longer the stigma and trauma might break my poor girl", she said sadly. "Please go home and eat, I will stay here with her till you are back." "No I'm fine, I will stay here." "Don't be stubborn wifey, I know you must be hungry and tired. Go and eat and freshen up." "What of you?" "I ate something at the office, so I am not hungry." "Just tell me you want to get rid of me so you can have a precious time with your precious daughter", she said sulking while Mr. Ade laughed heartily. His wife joined in the laughter and hugged her husband. He raised her head and kissed her on the forehead before placing it back on his chest. "Have you submitted your resignation letter?", he asked his wife. "Yes, I have. We were discussing the transfer when your call came in. He wasn't giving a positive reply though", she told her husband, standing up to go. "Don't worry, we will sort that out when we get to Katsina but there is a little problem", he announced. "What is the problem?", Mrs. Ade asked with a frown. "I called Saheed, the friend I told you about who is supposed to accommodate us but he's out of the country for now. I think he won't be back till next month so I called Mallam Danladi, you know he is an indigene of Katsina. He's more than willing to accommodate us so I told him to get us were to stay till my friend is back. The problem is that he stays in a remote area in Katsina, I don't know if you will like the idea but I feel Salamat needs a quiet place to recover fully." "That's not a problem...... anything for my daughter. Since it's just for a while, I have no problem with that. Let me go and get us dinner and also pack the little I can before coming back. I am sure your daughter has finished packing her things." "Alright then." "Ade" She called. "Can you please pass me my bag?", she requested politely. Her husband stretched his hand to get a hold of her bag on Salamat's bed and passed it to his wife who was standing next to him adjusting her veil. "Have you gotten who to sell the house to?" "Not yet but Doctor Imran will be in charge of monitoring the house till we get a potential buyer", he replied. "Ok. When Wumi wakes up, tell her I went to get us dinner and I will be back soon." "Okay, Wumi's mother", Mr. Ade said smiling at his wife. "Old man", she replied and stuck her tongue out at him before walking graciously out of the ward. Mr. Ade laughed and shook his head.
