---- Chapter 13 "You're... You're leaving such an expensive place for her?" Pearl questioned Lars, her voice turning harsh. She stood next to the floor-to-ceiling windows in Horatio Bay One, filled with disbelief. "Are you insane? Do you even know what this place is worth-" "She's worth it," Lars said as he turned and started to leave. Pearl stumbled after him. "Where are you going?" He didn't even look back. "I've got plans. Go home by yourself." Pearl stood there, watching Lars walk further and further away. She was shaking with rage. Before nine that night, she called Lars many, many times. When he refused to pick it up, she continued to call and frantically send out messages. Pearl knew men like him too well. Leave them alone, and you never know which woman they'll end up with. Finally, at two in the morning, her phone rang. However, it wasn't Lars-it was his closest friend in ---- Eastwind City. "Pearl, Lars is drunk, and he keeps shouting he wants to go home. We can't calm him down. Can you come get him?" Aslow smile crept onto Pearl's lips, and her eyes lit up instantly. She thought she was about to win again. No matter what Lars said, at the end of the day, she was still the one he truly cared about! Pearl quickly did her makeup, changed, sprayed on perfume, and hurried out. She wanted to waltz in as the victor and take her prize away. At the bar, Lars was slumped in a corner, clutching a bottle of whiskey, his face pale and eyes unfocused. "Hurry up and get him! Any more alcohol and we'll need to call an ambulance," Lars' friend said. "Okay, okay, I'll take him home." Pearl went over, gently calling out to him. "Lars, let's go home, okay?" Lars slowly turned to look at her, eyes still unfocused. "Home... Let her come get me..." Pear's expression became a frown, but she kept her voice soft. "I'm here to pick you up. Let's go now, ---- alright?" She and his friend helped him up, and Lars went along. Just as they reached the door, he suddenly pushed her hand away. "Why are you here? Where's Bianca? I want Bianca!" he demanded. Pearl's face turned dark. "You two broke up! I know you're hurting, but let's just go home." "Home? With you?" Lars's voice was rough. "You're the one who drove my Bianca away!" "Lars!" Pearl finally snapped. "I've had enough! Did you forget all those business trips? I was the one you brought with you! How many times did we talk until sunrise? You're the one who's attracted to me!" The private room went silent. "And now, you blame me for ruining things? Don't you know what you did? You betrayed her first! The night before she left, she called and begged you to come home, and you just ignored her!" Pearl snarled. Lars' eyes turned sharp. ---- "You sure enjoyed sleeping with me," Pearl sneered, " but now you're the victim? Disgusting! You think I'm despicable? Bianca is a great woman, but someone like you only deserves to be with someone like me. We're two of a kind!" Lars smashed his fist into the wall beside the sofa, making everyone jump to their feet. His voice was hoarse as he grunted, "Shut up!" He brushed past Pearl icily, leaving only one biting comment. "You may be right about everything, but you're nowhere near her league."" Pearl understood Lars all too well. She wanted the name "Bianca" to haunt Lars forever-to keep him awake every night, living forever in guilt and regret.
