---- Chapter 15 Erin Calhoun POV: | kept my eyes fixed on the pavement and walked right past him. He moved to block my path. "Don't be so stubborn, Erin. Come back to me. | told Brande | won't see her anymore." | looked at him and laughed. People always want what they can't have. When | was his, he craved the novelty of Brande. Now that | was gone, | had become the prize he needed to win back. "What do you say?" he asked, a hopeful, arrogant smile on his face. He reached for my hand, so sure of my answer. | took a step back. "I can't. | have a boyfriend now." His smile vanished. "What? Since when?" My own smile widened. "Since that weekend at the Alpenglow resort," | said sweetly. "Remember? The man's shirt | was wearing?" His eyes widened, the color draining from his face as the realization dawned. "It belonged to my boyfriend," | continued, twisting the knife. ---- "We had a wonderful night together." "You whorel" he roared, his face contorting in a mask of rage. "Don't be so dramatic," | said, my voice calm. "You were sleeping with Brande when we were still together. The only difference is, I'm serious about my relationship. I'm in love with him." "Who is he?" Carlton demanded, his hands clenched into fists. "| swear I'll kill him." "Who are you planning on killing?" A deep, cold voice cut through the air from behind him. Carlton froze, his body going rigid. He turned around slowly. When he saw Harvey standing there, all the fight went out of him. He looked like a puppet with its strings cut. Harvey, dressed in a sleek black coat, looked calm, sharp, and utterly intimidating. He took the box from my hands and looked at Carlton. "Don't ever harass her again." "She's my girlfriend!" Carlton spluttered. "You broke up," Harvey stated flatly. "She is no longer your girlfriend." "| was just angry! | didn't mean it!" Harvey ignored him. He put an arm around my waist, pulling me to his side. His gaze, cold and sharp, pinned Carlton to the ---- spot. "She said it's over. That means it's over." "Harvey..." Carlton started, his voice pleading. "Don't call me that," Harvey said, a humorless smile touching his lips. "Our families have no blood relation. You should know your place." Carlton's mouth snapped shut. | followed Harvey to his car. As we pulled away, | looked back. Carlton was still standing on the sidewalk, a pathetic, defeated figure. | turned to Harvey, admiring the sharp line of his profile as he focused on the road. | took out my phone and snapped a picture. "I'm posting this," | announced. "l want the whole world to know you're mine." He glanced at me, a warm smile in his eyes. "Okay." | opened my social media app, selected the photo, and typed out a caption: The most handsome man in the world. And he's all mine. The moment | hit post, my phone exploded with notifications. | scrolled through the comments, a giddy, irrepressible joy bubbling up inside me. At a red light, Harvey reached over and took my hand, his fingers lacing with mine. "Are you happy?" he asked, his voice soft ---- | beamed at him. "Very." He leaned over and pressed a soft kiss to my cheek. "Good. So am |." The light turned green, and the car moved forward.
