---- Chapter 7 Jeff sped home, hoping that it was all just a bad dream and that I was still waiting for him to come back. The rims of his eyes reddened. He pounded the steering wheel. "Ingrid, let me make this right." If he had known about this, he wouldn't have left me alone in the hospital. Just as he was about to get home, his assistant called. " Sir, we couldn't find Mrs. Hall anywhere, but we've figured out the case with Miss Kelley." Jeff rasped impatiently, "What's with the rambling? Get to the point!" "The patent images that Miss Kelley asked us to skip ahead on seem like the necklace Mrs. Hall was wearing yesterday," stammered the assistant. He had been there yesterday to witness everything. I didn't have a lot of works, while Veronica, backed by Jeff's wealth, churned out a new patent every week. ---- So, he had naturally assumed it was Veronica's creation. "I see," Jeff said calmly instead of losing his temper. He realized he had wronged me, deciding to make it up to me. He believed I would forgive him, given how much I loved him. When he got home, Gina bounced over. "Dad, you're back." She grinned, pulling Veronica's hand. "Don't you think Veronica is pretty today?" Jeff looked up and narrowed his eyes. There stood Veronica, looking shy. Around her neck was the same necklace I had worn yesterday. "Who told you to wear that? Take it off," he demanded, his harsh tone startling Veronica. Gina pouted. "Dad, why are you so mean? I don't like you anymore." She jumped into Veronica's arms. The latter smiled ---- awkwardly. "Don't take it personally. It's just a child's talk." Jeff knew he had spoiled Gina too much. He yanked her away. "I need to ask you something. Do you really not know who made this necklace?" Gina, never having seen him so serious, stiffened. Veronica quickly intervened. "Jeff, take it easy. You're scaring her." With her sassy tone, she tried to charm him. In the past, he would have followed her lead and dropped the topic. Today, though, his expression remained dark. "I told you to take it off." The tension in the air was palpable, making Veronica hesitate. Despite her displeasure, she took it off. "Is something wrong?" she asked softly. "You seem upset." Jeff ignored her, crouching in front of Gina. "Tell me, who made the necklace?" ---- "Thate you!" Gina yelled, hammering him with her fists. Irritated, Jeff grabbed her and swatted her a few times on the bottom. Veronica covered her mouth in shock. "Jeff, stop! You're hurting her!" Gina shouted defiantly, ''So what if Mom and I made it? She said it was made for me." She clenched her fists, huffing, ''I gave the necklace to Veronica, so it's hers now. When Mom took it, it was stealing." Discover our latest featured short drama reel.
