---- Book 1 Chapter 15 knowing I now had to go change into work attire. I got up off the stool. Where are you going? Cyrus asked, putting the paper down and looking at me. To change into my work clothes. Cyrus waves me off. You look fine. Just wear that, he said, folding the newspaper up and chugging the rest of his coffee before placing it in the sink. I followed suit, drinking the rest of my cup quickly, not wanting to be stuck in the kitchen alone with Eli. The drive to the airport was quiet, the tension so thick I felt like I was suffocating. I white-knuckled the seat the entire trip on the plane, my nails biting into the leather and my body rigid. By the time the plane landed, I was visibly shaking, but I fared better than last time. At least I remained awake and didn't have a full-blown panic attack. As soon as we got back to work, they went to their offices, ignoring me and giving me time to write my resignation letter. My mother would murder me, then forgive me; she had to because she was my mom, and moms forgive their children. 5/6 ---- Book 1 Chapter 15 I could find a job at a local store or something. Something not as stressful would be good, though the idea of having to use a customer service voice and put up with whining shoppers didnt sound all that appealing either. 6/6 ---- Book 1 Chapter 16 Book 1 Chapter 16 Chapter 16 Once my letter was done, I printed it before putting it in an envelope, before setting out to do my actual job, answering phones and jotting down messages. I also did some filing, and before my lunch break, my mother rang me to tell me she was heading home early because she wasnt feeling well and was picking up Maya from school early. When it hit five o'clock, I organized an Uber to pick me up and waited for the message from the driver to let me know he was downstairs. I was a little nervous about giving this to Eli and didnt plan to stick around for him to read it since Cyrus went down in the lift somewhere. When I got a message, I quickly replied, letting the driver know I was on my way down before walking over and knocking on Eli's door. Come in, I heard him call out. He looked up as I entered, and I walked to his desk, handing him the envelope, my palms sweating as I turned around and all but ran from the room. Grabbing my bag, I caught the lift down to the foyer 1/5 ---- Book 1 Chapter 16 and saw the Uber out front. My heart was hammering in my chest as I reached the glass door leading outside. Opening the car door, I got in, saying hello to the driver, closing the door only for it to be ripped back open. I gulped when I saw it was Cyrus, his ear to his phone. The driver looked a little startled by him. Cyrus hung up, grabbing my arm in an iron-like grip and ripping me out of the car. She has a lift, he told the young man driving before flicking some notes in his lap and slamming the door. I tried to pull my arm from his grip. Some teenagers were sitting on the garden beds, loitering around the building, staring as he ripped me to his side. Let go! You're hurting me, I told him, but he ignored me, pulling me back inside the building and toward the elevator. The doors opened, and he shoved me inside. The security guard came rushing over, stopping the doors from closing, and I went to dart out when he grabbed my arm, holding me in place. The security guard looked at him; his blue eyes held worry, but I wasnt sure for whom, me or his boss. Discover our latest featured short drama reel. Watch now and enjoy the story!
