Chapter 0027 Caroline’s POV : Fear was absent from my heart as I stared William down , holding my wounded arm . He approached me with anger etched into his features . or any sort of “ You’re insane , ” he said outright . “ If you think this is going to sympathy from me , you’re dead wrong . Your father owes Sophia everything , and you’d do well to keep that in mind ! ” Anderson , you need to calm down , ” the doctor ordered sternly , approaching me with bandages to compress my wound and stop the bleeding . A pang of sympathy hit me , for it was clear he was already exhausted from all the drama . “ You’re only going to make things worse than they already are . Any arguments William had died when he got a sharp glare from the doctor , and he reluctantly stepped aside . The doctor carefully sat me down and diligently inspected my arm . “ You did a number on yourself , ” he murmured , beginning to wrap the bandages around my arm . “ I’m sorry , but this is going to hurt . I had no regrets about mutilating myself , but it still didn’t make the wound hurt any less . A cry of pain left my lips as the bandage passed over my deep gash . William tensed with alarm and took a single step towards me , swiftly halting with an unreadable look crossing over his visage . For one unbelievable moment , it was as if hearing me in pain hurt him . He uncaringly stepped away , his expression settling on stern once “ Just endure it , ” he told me . “ If you’re looking for someone to pity you , you’re not going to get it here . It was another scathing reminder of how much he hated me , and that no matter what , he wanted me to be miserable . I struggled to decipher whether his clashing behavior was a result of our long lasting marriage or if he was just possessive . He demanded control over everything that belonged to him , and that included me . Maybe death would be the only way to get back at him , I thought . As bleak as it sounded , it only made sense . He wanted so badly to control me ; to selfishly take myself away would be the ultimate form of freedom . It seemed an angered retort was expected of me , and William visibly grew frustrated when none came . He opened his mouth to throw another cruel insult , but it snapped shut when Laden fixed him with a stern look . “ Calm down ” he demanded , his voice firm . “ She’s had enough . Just go get the car . An offended look tugged at William’s face as his friend openly defended me , but he supplied no protest . Instead , he marched outside to start his car , grumbling under his breath . William stood by unhelpfully as I was lifted into the car by Laden and his doctor , merely observing us with a blank stare . Once we started moving , he raced down the road , even carelessly breaking a few speed limits . He drove recklessly and with panic , as if I was mortally wounded . My condition must have scared the medical staff , because the doctors took one look at me and rushed me to get treated . I had only just been ushered into the treatment room when I caught William’s booming voice ordering the doctors around . “ I want nothing but the best for her , ” he shouted . “ Anything less and I will ruin this hospital ! ” William’s name carried weight everywhere he went , so his threats were terrifying to those who met his ire . The doctors were scared stiff at his demands , but one doctor came forward with nervousness in his voice . “ O – of course ! ” a lone surgeon stuttered . “ I’ll tend to her wounds personally . She’s in good hands . William’s behavior was utterly humiliating to me . No matter where he went , he acted so entitled , and it made me sick that he was causing some of the doctors to be too nervous to treat me . My ugly wound was properly sewn up and bandaged in a timely manner , and the doctor kindly gave me strong painkillers to withstand the pain . The massive blood loss made me woozy , but my arm was healed , and for that I was filled with gratitude . ve out for even William had been watching the doctor work on me like a hawk , keeping an eye out for the slightest little mistake . When the doctor finally finished up his work and stepped out , my ex – husband marched towards me . “ We’re getting you a full physical examination , ” he said simply . “ No ifs , ands , or buts . “ But I don’t want one , ” I growled . “ You’re not going to make me take one . William bristled angrily at my refusal . “ We’re getting you one whether you like it or not , ” he replied , his voice raising . “ Stop being so difficult , Caroli- ” “ Excuse me , sir, ” a doctor interrupted , nervousness thick in his voice . “ I’m going to need . you to sign something before we can give her a physical exam . Can you do that ? ” William’s anger swiftly diminished and shot the doctor a stern glare . “ Yeah , of course , ” he sighed , following the doctor out with impatience in every step . Taking the opportunity luck had given me , I stealthily slipped out of the room without either of them noticing . I had to leave before they examined me against my will . Leaving the ward with fear quickening my movements , I carefully followed the exit signs . out of the hospital . As I was cautiously passing by one of the empty examination rooms , I felt unknown hands grab me . A scream started on my lips , but a man in a surgical mask Chapter 0027 placed a hand over my mouth before I could utter a noise . “ Hush . It’s me , ” he whispered , removing his mask to reveal a very familiar face .
