---- However, Keith was a no-show, and just as I was about to split, disappointed, someone rapped on my window. I jumped, then scowled at Joan's grinning mug before rolling down the glass. "Elsie, fancy bumping into you here! Are you looking for Keith too?" she beamed. I shot back, "Nope, just passing through." However, before I could even finish, Joan bolted, latching onto Keith's arm with a panicked look, tears and all. "Keith, I have no clue why Elsie's here bugging me again..." Her drama queen act was enough to make my blood boil. I scrambled out of the car and blurted out to Keith, " I'm not here for her, okay?" Keith shot mea look, then wrapped Joan up in his arms, whispering, "Don't mind her, let's bounce." ---- They brushed past me like I was just part of the scenery. "Keith!" I reached out, trying to snag his jacket, my fingers straining until they blanched. Keith spun around, his eyes icy, like he was staring down a total stranger. He yanked his jacket free from my grip and said, " Elsie, get a grip. You've worn out your welcome." His words, so sharp and distant, rooted me to the spot. I lost all my fight to keep him there.
