---- I patiently explained to everyone that things were different these days. People didn't like the idea of arranged marriages, and the younger generation should have the chance to find love for themselves. The family elders on both sides sighed ruefully, but things ended on a fairly amicable note. I stayed at home while waiting for my SAT results to come out. Since I hadn't done a good job looking after my parents in my previous lifetime, I wanted to make it up to them this time. Meanwhile, Eliza was supposed to be getting engaged, but there was still no news of that at all. Once, I bumped into her while I went out on a grocery run. When she spotted me, she marched up to me and grabbed my hand. "The SATs are over, so why aren't you making any attempts to appease me yet? We're engaged. Do you think you can run away from reality just by avoiding me?" I was rather confused. Did Eliza not know that the ---- Stewarts had asked me to handle the termination of our betrothal? Nevertheless, I didn't tell her that. Instead, I said, " Aren't you and Carl getting along really well? He even invited me to attend your engagement party." Eliza's eyes pooled with tears. She glared at me and questioned, "Why hasn't it occurred to you to try and fight for me? I don't want to get engaged to Carl. I don't want to be with him! I only said I wanted to call off our engagement because I was mad. Why don't you understand me?" I knew that, of course. I merely chose to play dumb despite knowing what she really meant.
