---- clear. While | try to recall if I've ever seen a photo of him in the media, or heard anything about his appearance, a light knock on my door startles me. | smile as | call out, "Come in!" The door opens, and my maid enters with a beautiful tray of freshly cut fruit. My father doesn't care if | eat properly or take care of my body, but she does. These fruits come from her personal gardens, and I'm one of the lucky ones here who get to feast on them. "| bring fresh fruit and good news," she cheers in a hushed tone as she takes rushed steps toward me. My eyes immediately turn to the door, and | raise an eyebrow in silent question. She casts a glance over her shoulder, turns back to me and shakes her head. So it's not my father standing at the door, but there is ---- someone. | watch her as she approaches my bed, places the tray on my legs and leans closer to whisper, "A guard, so you can't escape before he arrives." She muses. Great, my life just got so much better. Not only he pays someone to take the only thing of value | had, but he also sells me like a piece of meat to aman whos no better than a monster, and now he turns my room into a prison. | hate it here... Sighing in defeat, | whisper. "And the good news?" Honestly, | would really need something good to happen right now. Like really, really need it. More than the next breath | might take type of need. | don't like complaining as | always believed that no matter the hardships, my life has been good. | have a roof over my head, clothes to wear, ---- food in my belly and warm water for showers - the most necessary things. That's why | never whined about anything as | know there are many people who lack the basic things | have. And yet, ever since the decision my father made, my life has turned upside down. Even the necessary things | held of high value don't seem important anymore for the price I'm forced to pay. | bite my bottom lip, waiting for the maid to speak up. She casts another glance over her shoulder and leans in closer, as if the extra proximity will ensure no one can hear us. "He will arrive in three days. So we have time to plan something and get you out of here. | can't promise it will work, but | can't let you go through with his sick plan. The Alpha has lost his mind. Enough is enough." A warm feeling spreads through my chest at her words. It's not the things she says about my father or the promise to help me get out of here. It's the gesture - the proof that someone cares ---- about me. | tap the spot next to me and wait until she sits down. Reaching for a piece of apple, | think of the possible consequences. If | follow through with my father's plan, there's no telling how long I'll survive under the ruling of Alpha Dorian or how bad my life will be. He's unpredictable, and definitely not a saint.
